The JW (Jigging World) Premium Bucktail V2 is a highly popular and effective bucktail jig designed for a wide variety of inshore and nearshore saltwater fishing. It's an upgraded version of their original premium bucktail, incorporating improvements based on angler feedback.

Here's what makes the JW Premium Bucktail V2 stand out:

Key Features and Improvements:

• Improved Paint Jobs: The V2 features enhanced and more durable paint finishes, ensuring the jig maintains its vibrant, fish-attracting colors even after heavy use and contact with rough bottom or toothy fish.
• Stronger Long Shank Hooks: A critical upgrade, the V2 comes equipped with a significantly stronger, ultra-sharp long shank hook. This provides better hook-up ratios, superior penetration, and increased holding power to keep larger, harder-fighting fish pinned. The long shank is also beneficial for rigging larger soft plastic trailers without compromising the hook gap.
• Updated Soft Plastic Keeper: The jig head features an improved soft plastic keeper. This ribbed or barb-style keeper is designed to securely hold soft plastic trailers (like grubs, Gulp!, or strips) in place, preventing them from sliding down the hook during casts, retrieves, or short strikes. This maintains the jig's intended presentation and extends the life of your soft plastics.
• Premium Bucktail Material: As the name suggests, these jigs utilize high-quality bucktail hair, which provides a natural, pulsating action in the water that mimics baitfish. This lifelike movement is often a key trigger for predatory fish.
• Versatile Head Design: While sometimes referred to as "S&S style" (referring to a classic bullet-head or flat-head design), the precise head shape contributes to its versatile action, allowing it to be fished effectively with various retrieves.
• Wide Range of Sizes and Colors: The JW Premium Bucktail V2 is available in a comprehensive selection of weights (from 3/8oz up to 8oz, or even 10oz in some iterations) and a variety of proven fish-catching colors (e.g., White, Chartreuse, Crazy Chartreuse, Glow, Nuclear Chicken, Pink, Fire Tiger, Pink Shine). This extensive range allows anglers to match the hatch, target different depths, and adapt to varying water conditions.

Ideal Applications & Target Species:

The JW Premium Bucktail V2 is incredibly versatile and a favorite for:

• Fluke (Summer Flounder): Especially popular in the Northeast, the V2's design and ability to pair with soft plastic trailers make it a top choice for jigging fluke off the bottom.
• Striped Bass: Effective for stripers in various scenarios, from casting in the surf to jigging in inlets or deeper channels.
• Black Sea Bass: A proven producer for bottom fishing these aggressive panfish.
• Weakfish: Its enticing action and soft plastic compatibility make it great for targeting weakfish.
• Bluefish: While bluefish can be tough on bucktails, the V2's stronger components hold up better than many.
• Cod & Pollock: Can be very effective for bottom species in deeper water.
• Other Inshore and Nearshore Game Fish: Its general appeal to predatory fish means it can catch a wide array of species depending on location and conditions.

Why Anglers Like It:

Anglers appreciate the JW Premium Bucktail V2 for its combination of durability, effectiveness, and value. The upgraded components mean fewer lost fish due to bent hooks and longer-lasting lures. Its ability to be fished effectively with or without a soft plastic trailer adds to its versatility. Many consider it a "workhorse" jig for consistent results.
